The extractor (also called the ejector star) is the star-shaped plate that fits over the cylinder posts and, when the ejector rod is depressed, simultaneously pushes all spent cartridge cases out of the cylinder for rapid unloading. This part is specific to the 8-shot .22 LR Model 317 and is the new style design — it is NOT interchangeable with the old style extractor or with 5-shot centerfire J Frame extractors. Verify your extractor style and cylinder configuration before ordering. This is a genuine Smith & Wesson factory part in stainless steel, direct OEM replacement.
Note: The extractor is also commonly referred to as the ejector or ejector star. The Model 317 is a rimfire (.22 LR) revolver — this extractor is not compatible with centerfire J Frame models.
