Smith & Wesson N Frame Model 1917 DA45 Cylinder & Yoke Assembly .45 ACP Blue Steel Used - DA8
Smith & Wesson N Frame Model 1917 DA45 Cylinder & Yoke Assembly — .45 ACP, Blue Steel, Used
Part #DA8 | Used | N Frame | Model 1917 DA45 | .45 ACP | Cylinder & Yoke Assembly | Blue Steel | Military / Historical
Genuine used Smith & Wesson blue steel cylinder and yoke (crane) assembly for the N Frame Model 1917 DA45 double-action revolver in .45 ACP. This is a major structural assembly — the cylinder contains the six charge holes chambered for .45 ACP, and the yoke is the swing-out crane arm that connects the cylinder to the frame for loading and unloading. Together as a matched assembly, this is the primary rotating and feeding component of the 1917 action.
⚠️ Half-Moon Clip Requirement: The Model 1917 cylinder is chambered in .45 ACP. The .45 ACP cartridge is semi-rimmed and requires half-moon clips (3-round) or full-moon clips (6-round) for proper headspace and reliable extraction. Without clips, .45 ACP cartridges will not headspace correctly and may not extract after firing. .45 Auto Rim ammunition — which has a full rim — can be used without clips.
The Smith & Wesson Model 1917 DA45 was produced under U.S. Army contract beginning in 1917 to address a .45 ACP pistol shortage during WWI; approximately 175,000 were produced for military use through 1919, with additional production for WWII. The 1917 was also sold commercially and exported to Allied nations. It remains one of the most historically significant American military revolvers, and original-configuration cylinder/yoke assemblies in good condition are sought after by collectors and military restorers.
Used Condition: Genuine used OEM assembly. Blue steel finish with normal handling marks, holster wear, and patina consistent with a military-era service revolver part. Cylinder and yoke inspected for mechanical soundness — no visible cracks, bulges, or forcing cone damage. Cylinder timing and lockup should be verified by a gunsmith after installation. Contact us for photos before purchasing if cosmetic condition is a concern.
Compatible
- Smith & Wesson Model 1917 DA45 — N Frame, .45 ACP, WWI/WWII military production
- Note: Cylinder and yoke assemblies are model-specific. The Model 1917 N Frame cylinder is NOT interchangeable with other N Frame .45 ACP or .44 Magnum cylinders due to chambering and dimensional differences. Verify fitment with your gunsmith.
