Genuine used Smith & Wesson stainless steel 4" barrel for the L Frame Model 681 Distinguished Service Magnum. This is a non-pinned barrel — post-approximately 1982 production, retained by thread tension only without a cross-pin through the frame. Non-pinned and pinned barrels are not interchangeable; verify your revolver's production date and barrel configuration before ordering. Installing an incorrectly specified barrel will require additional fitting and frame work by a gunsmith.
The Model 681 was S&W’s fixed-sight stainless L Frame .357 Magnum Distinguished Service Magnum, produced 1980–1992 and widely adopted by law enforcement. The 4" barrel was the primary service configuration.

Barrel replacement on a Smith & Wesson revolver is a gunsmith-only operation. Proper installation requires a barrel vise, frame wrench, and the following steps by a qualified pistolsmith: barrel thread engagement and torque, timing/barrel alignment verification, cylinder gap measurement (.004"–.006" typical), and forcing cone inspection.
