This new style hammer block is specific to later production Model 10 revolvers. Hammer block design varies between old style and new style — they are not interchangeable. Verify your revolver’s dash number (stamped on the frame under the cylinder crane) before ordering. Gunsmith fitting recommended.

Function

The hammer block (also called the firing pin block or transfer bar on some designs) sits between the hammer and the frame-mounted firing pin. It is only moved out of the way when the trigger is fully depressed, preventing the hammer from reaching the firing pin if the revolver is dropped or the hammer is struck accidentally. A missing, worn, or improperly fitted hammer block creates an unsafe condition and must be replaced immediately.

Installation Note

Professional gunsmith installation required. Hammer block replacement involves sideplate removal and action reassembly. Proper function and drop-safety must be verified after installation. Do not operate the revolver without a properly fitted hammer block.
