Function:

The hammer block (also called the safety block or hammer stop) is a critical safety component that prevents the hammer from striking the firing pin unless the trigger is fully pulled to the rear. This prevents accidental discharge if the revolver is dropped or the hammer is struck. The hammer block rises into position to block the hammer's forward travel when the trigger is not pulled.
