In S&W 2nd Generation DA/SA pistols, the lever spring provides tension to the trigger lever (also called the sear lever or trigger bar lever), which is part of the fire control linkage that connects trigger movement to sear release. A weak, broken, or missing lever spring causes inconsistent trigger reset, failure to reset, or failure to fire.
