Function

The strain screw threads into the bottom of the grip frame to secure the mainspring (hammer spring) in place. It also allows for trigger pull adjustment — turning the screw in or out changes tension on the mainspring, affecting trigger pull weight and hammer strike force. Proper adjustment ensures reliable ignition while maintaining a comfortable trigger pull.

Installation Note

Can be installed by the owner with basic tools. Access through the bottom of the grip frame after removing grips. Proper adjustment is important — too loose may cause light primer strikes; too tight may cause excessive trigger pull weight.

Authentic Smith & Wesson factory part — manufactured to exact OEM specifications and tolerances.
