The bolt (cylinder stop) is the small part that rises from the frame to engage the cylinder notches and lock the cylinder in alignment with the barrel at each chamber position. The bolt plunger transmits spring force to the bolt, and the spring provides the tension that keeps the bolt engaged. A worn, weak, or broken bolt plunger or spring causes the cylinder to fail to lock up properly, resulting in misalignment between the chamber and barrel — a safety-critical condition that can cause bullet shaving or worse. This used OEM set is inspected and functional, manufactured to original S&W specifications and tolerances.
