Installation Requirements
This sight blade comes undrilled (blind) so you can achieve a perfect, wiggle-free fit. Proper installation requires:
- Drill bit: #54 (0.055") or #53 (0.0595") High-Speed Steel (HSS) drill bit. Most gunsmiths prefer the #54 bit for a slightly tighter press fit that prevents the sight from shifting under recoil.
- Replacement pin: The original pin is often damaged during removal. Standard K, L, and N Frame models use a standard front sight pin; lightweight/alloy-frame models (Airweight, PD variants) may require a frame-specific pin.
- Cutting oil and drill press: Drill slowly with cutting oil. A drill press is strongly recommended to keep the hole perfectly perpendicular to the sight rib.
Gunsmith Recommended: Front sight installation on a pinned sight system requires drilling and pressing. Professional installation by a qualified gunsmith is recommended to avoid damaging the barrel rib or misaligning the sight.
