Installation Requirements:
To properly install this pinned front sight, you will need:
1. Replacement Pin
Since you must drill through the new sight blade while it is seated in the barrel, the original pin is often damaged or too short to reuse. Choose the appropriate pin for your model:
- Standard Steel Models: Most K, L, and N-frame revolvers (like the Model 19, 686, or 29) use a standard front sight pin.
- Lightweight/Alloy Models: If you are working on an Airweight or PD model (like the 325PD or 329PD), you may need the specific pin for alloy frames.
2. Required Drill Bit
The hole in the barrel is quite small, and the new sight blade comes "blind" (undrilled) so you can achieve a perfect, wiggle-free fit.
- Size: You will need a #54 (0.055") or #53 (0.0595") High-Speed Steel (HSS) drill bit.
- Tip: Most gunsmiths prefer the #54 bit as it creates a slightly tighter "press fit" for the pin, ensuring the sight never shifts under recoil.
Pro Installation Tip
When drilling, go slowly and use plenty of cutting oil. Because you are drilling through the existing holes in the barrel's sight ribs to mark the new blade, a drill press is highly recommended to keep the hole perfectly straight.
Product Details:
This pinned front sight features a black serrated ramp design that reduces glare and provides a clear, defined sight picture. The serrated surface helps prevent light reflection for improved target acquisition in various lighting conditions. The .278" height is a standard specification for many Smith & Wesson revolvers.
The pinned design allows for secure installation and can be replaced if damaged or if you want to adjust your point of impact. This is a critical component for accurate shooting and proper sight alignment.
