Used convertible hammer for the Smith & Wesson Model 53 K Frame revolver — S&W's rare .22 Remington Jet / .22 LR convertible revolver produced from 1961 to 1974. The Model 53 is one of the most mechanically unique S&W K Frame revolvers ever made: chambered in .22 Remington Jet (a high-velocity centerfire bottlenecked cartridge based on the .357 Magnum case) and supplied with a .22 LR cylinder insert kit for rimfire conversion. The convertible hammer is designed to function with both the centerfire Jet cylinder and the rimfire .22 LR insert cylinder, accommodating the firing pin requirements of each.

The .22 Remington Jet was a technically ambitious cartridge that proved problematic in practice — the bottleneck case tended to adhere to the cylinder walls after firing due to the high chamber pressure and case geometry, frequently requiring a mallet to open the cylinder. This is a major reason the Model 53 was discontinued in 1974 after just 13 years. Hammers for the Model 53 are extremely difficult to source due to the model's rarity and limited production.
