Important compatibility notes:

  • This is a centerfire hammer. It is not compatible with rimfire K Frame models (17, 18, 48, 617, 648) which require a different firing pin configuration.
  • This is the new style hammer. Verify your revolver’s dash number and production era before ordering — old style and new style hammers are not interchangeable.
  • Blue steel finish matches blued K Frame revolvers. Not for stainless models (Model 64, 65, 66, 67).

Function

The hammer is cocked either manually (single-action) or by the trigger pull (double-action). When released, it drives the frame-mounted firing pin forward to strike the cartridge primer. A worn, chipped, or improperly fitted hammer can cause light primer strikes, misfires, or unsafe conditions.

Installation Note

Professional gunsmith installation required. Hammer fitting involves sear engagement geometry, hammer-nose protrusion, and timing verification. Do not attempt without proper tools and training.
