Genuine factory new Smith & Wesson cylinder stop spring for J, K, L, N, and X Frame revolvers. The cylinder stop spring sits beneath the cylinder stop (bolt) in the frame and provides upward tension to push the bolt up into the cylinder stop notches as the cylinder rotates into alignment. Weak or broken cylinder stop spring tension is the most common cause of the cylinder failing to lock up positively — the cylinder will rotate slightly out of alignment under recoil or handling, resulting in unreliable firing and potential safety issues. This is the most frequently replaced spring in the S&W double-action revolver action.

Installation

Side plate removal required to access the cylinder stop spring. Replace the spring and verify cylinder stop (bolt) engagement before reassembly. Cylinder lockup should be firm with no perceptible play when the trigger is held to the rear. Professional gunsmith installation recommended.
