This is the MIM (Metal Injection Molded) new-style bolt — the manufacturing method S&W transitioned to in the late 1990s, which produces a denser, more consistent part than earlier machined or cast versions. The bolt is the spring-loaded component that rises to engage the cylinder notches, locking the cylinder in precise alignment with the barrel at each chamber position. A worn, chipped, or broken bolt causes the cylinder to fail to lock up properly, resulting in misalignment between the chamber and barrel — a safety-critical condition. This used OEM part is removed from a used firearm and in good working condition, manufactured to original S&W specifications and tolerances.
