Function

The strain screw threads into the bottom of the grip frame and bears against the mainspring. Adjusting it in (clockwise) increases mainspring tension for heavier trigger pull and more reliable ignition. Adjusting it out (counter-clockwise) lightens trigger pull but may cause light primer strikes. Always test fire after adjustment. Due to the power of the .50 S&W Magnum, proper mainspring tension is critical for safe and reliable operation.

About the Model 500 X Frame

The Smith & Wesson Model 500 is the most powerful production revolver in the world, chambered in .50 S&W Magnum and generating over 2,600 ft-lbs of muzzle energy. Built on the massive X Frame — S&W's largest revolver platform — X Frame parts are not interchangeable with N Frame or other S&W frames. Always verify X Frame compatibility when ordering parts.

Installation

Gunsmith installation recommended for proper adjustment. Requires removal of grips and access to the grip frame. Improper adjustment can cause light primer strikes or excessive trigger pull. Factory OEM part manufactured to exact S&W specifications and tolerances.
