Product Details

Genuine Smith & Wesson factory bolt assembly (also called cylinder stop or cylinder bolt) for the K Frame Model 65 revolver. This critical timing component locks the cylinder in precise alignment with the barrel for each shot. Stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance and durability. Cleaned, inspected, and guaranteed for reliable performance. Essential for maintaining proper cylinder timing and lockup.

About the Model 65

The Smith & Wesson Model 65 is the stainless steel version of the Model 13, featuring a heavy barrel and fixed sights. Introduced in 1972, the Model 65 became extremely popular with law enforcement agencies due to its corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction and rugged reliability. Chambered in .357 Magnum (also fires .38 Special), the Model 65 served as a duty weapon for countless police departments and remains popular for home defense and competitive shooting. The stainless finish requires less maintenance than blued steel, making it ideal for all-weather carry.

Bolt Assembly Function

The bolt (cylinder stop) is a spring-loaded component that rises through the bottom of the frame to engage notches in the cylinder, locking it in precise alignment with the barrel. Proper bolt function is absolutely critical for accuracy, safety, and reliable ignition. The bolt must engage at exactly the right moment during trigger pull and hammer fall to ensure the chamber is perfectly aligned with the barrel and firing pin.

Function & Compatibility

The bolt assembly works in conjunction with the hand to control cylinder rotation and timing. As you pull the trigger in double-action, the hand rotates the cylinder while the bolt drops down to allow rotation. At the precise moment of lockup, the bolt rises to engage the cylinder notch, locking everything in alignment. This timing must be perfect for safe and accurate operation.

This bolt assembly is specifically designed for Smith & Wesson K Frame Model 65 revolvers chambered in .357 Magnum. It may also fit other stainless K Frame models - contact us to verify compatibility for your specific revolver.

K Frame Stainless Models

The Model 65 is part of Smith & Wesson's stainless steel K Frame family, which includes the Model 64 (.38 Special), Model 66 (adjustable sights), and Model 67 (.38 Special with adjustable sights). Stainless models use the same basic action as blued models but feature corrosion-resistant stainless steel construction throughout. The Model 65 is essentially a stainless steel Model 13.

How to Identify Your S&W Model

To determine your Smith & Wesson revolver model number, swing out the cylinder and check behind the yoke on the frame for the model number stamped into the metal. You should see "65" or a dash variant like "65-1", "65-2", etc. Model numbers began in 1957-58. If no model number is present, your revolver may be pre-1957. Contact us with your serial number for assistance in identifying the correct parts.

Timing & Performance Notes

The bolt assembly is one of the most critical components affecting revolver timing and accuracy. It must engage the cylinder notches at precisely the right moment to ensure proper barrel-cylinder alignment. Worn or improperly fitted bolts can cause accuracy problems, cylinder binding, light primer strikes, or dangerous timing issues. Proper timing ensures the chamber is perfectly aligned with the barrel and firing pin for reliable ignition and maximum accuracy.

Condition Notes

This is a used OEM bolt assembly removed from a functioning Smith & Wesson Model 65 revolver. Has been professionally cleaned and inspected. Shows normal wear consistent with use. All engagement surfaces have been checked for excessive wear or damage. Spring tension is good. Stainless steel finish may show minor wear typical of service revolvers. Guaranteed to function properly.
